This great vineyard in Pessac-Leognan dates at least back to 1530. La Parde is a true second wine and one of the first such wines to be made in Bordeaux in 1967. Grapes are sourced from the estate's young vines. Its soft texture and forward aromas make this a great wine to drink young. Look for notes of cherry, plum, earth and spice.
Just outside of Bordeaux, Château Haut-Bailly sits in a 74-acre vineyard at the heart of the Graves region. Under the new leadership of Robert Wilmers and the management of Veronique Sanders, Chateau Haut-Bailly develops wines in a distinctive style that combines classicism with modernity. Haut-Bailly has silky smooth tannins and elegant yet complex aromas. Rich with beautiful texture and great aging potential.
JD94: As to the second wine of Château Haut Bailly, it too is fabulous stuff in 2016. A blend of 47% each of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Le Prade de Haut Bailly offers notable purity as well as medium to full-bodied notes of blackcurrants, dried herbs, flowers, and spice. It’s a layered, seamless wine from this estate that has no hard edges, beautiful balance, and a great finish. It’s already delivering loads of pleasure but will keep for 15+ years.
JS93: The mineral and tar character with hints of white pepper is at the forefront of the nose here. The palate’s defined by a medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. More phenolic than the 2015.
