One of our favorite traditional producers in Barolo, the Aurelio Settimo estate was founded in 1953 and remains family-run today. It boasts around 7 hectares of vines, mostly planted with Nebbiolo, including the celebrated Rocche dell'Annunziata cru.
This is pure Nebbiolo. No oak. No funny business in the cellar. No waiting. It undergoes a shorter maceration on the skins than Barolo and has wonderful balance. It is delicate, with notes of violet, red fruit, and spices.
Quite neutral if not raw on the nose, yet with a pleasant whiff of licorice, small red fruits and cinnamon. Light-bodied, it shows crisp acidity with firm yet chewy tannins. Savory finish. (James Suckling, 91 Points)
