JD95+: The 2021 Barolo is a medium red /ruby color and very appealing on the nose, with aromas of spice, ripe cherries, toasted spices, dark stones, apricot, and pine. The palate has a silky texture, with an even spine of fresh acidity. It has a very even and long feel, with its tannins taking a more gripping, noble feel on the finish. Drink 2027-2047.
VM93: The 2021 Barolo is gorgeous. Orange peel, cinnamon, kirsch, new leather and spice are all beautifully delineated. As always, proprietor Alan Manley strives to make a classically styled yet open-knit Barolo that can be enjoyed on release. In the 2021, that manifests more in the aromatics than in the tannins, but it was bottled just two months before this tasting, so I suspect it is still under a bit of bottle shock. The Margherita Otto Barolo is a blend from several sites. In 2021, it saw 45 days on the skins, with submerged cap maceration, followed by 30 months in cask.
